Megan Smith, MA, LPC, NCC

My name is Megan Smith, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) here at Lighthouse Counseling Services. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor.

In 2019, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay with a Bachelor’s in Psychology with an emphasis in Brain, Behavior, and Health, and a Minor in Human Development. In 2022, I received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. During my internship and externship, I worked under the supervision of Jeff Ferguson here at Lighthouse. I received my full Wisconsin license in July of 2024. I am also a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Wisconsin Counseling Association (WCA). I tend to use a Cognitive-Behavioral approach to counseling, but also strongly believe in forming the sessions to suit the needs and strengths of each client on an individual basis. What works for one client may not work for another, and discovering what works for each client is a special and rewarding puzzle.

I have a wide range of experience working with people of all different ages and walks of life. During my undergraduate career, I was a caregiver at an assisted living facility, where I provided emotional support to many elderly residents and their families. Situations I worked with were bereavement, terminal/end-of-life grief and acceptance, suicidal ideation/attempts, and veteran trauma; I also worked with various mental health diagnoses such as dementia, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, agoraphobia, adjustment disorder, and panic disorder. From 2019 to 2024, I was a lead daycare teacher, working with children ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years. During my time there, I worked closely with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, social-emotional struggles, behavioral issues, ADHD, autism, communication skills, grief, foster/adoption cases, anxiety, attachment disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder.

I provide child and adolescent individual therapy as well as adult individual therapy. I also offer family therapy. While I do see clients of all ages, I especially love working with children and teens. I feel that I offer my clients a safe and comfortable environment that allows them to feel respected and heard, while also not being afraid to be honest and direct with them when needed. I work predominantly with grief/bereavement, complicated grief, trauma (acute, chronic, and complex), anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, autism, ADHD, relationship distress, self-esteem struggles, and social-emotional skill development. I have also been trained in providing HMR (Holographic Memory Resolution) for trauma, anxiety, and grief.

Additionally, I have a strong passion for helping individuals find the strength and confidence in themselves to get out of abusive relationships. I find it important to be an advocate and raise awareness that women and men can be victims of physical, sexual, emotional, and mental abuse. Breaking free from the abusive hold of a narcissist and taking back one’s happiness and power is an incredibly difficult yet brave step, and I would be more than honored to assist in that journey.
